Tooth Extraction

Dr. Mack Wright does his best to save infected or damaged teeth, but sometimes a tooth extraction is needed (which is removing the tooth and root from the jaw).  No one enjoys the process of removing a tooth, although it is not as traumatic as it once was.  Tooth extraction is considered a minor procedure that is done in the office.  The patient is typically back to a regular routine by the next day, although it is probably a good idea to take it easy the rest of the day of the procedure.

Knowledge is power.  Knowing what is going to happen will relieve most fears, except for patients who were afraid of doctors and dentists before needing an extraction.  Dr. Wright wants all patients to be as comfortable as possible, no matter what type of treatment is needed.

Tooth extractions may be needed before braces are placed, although it is mainly due to tooth damage or infection.

The patient area around the tooth is numbed with anesthesia which is allowed to sit for a while to take full effect.  By the time the extraction begins, no pain should be felt at all in that area.  When Dr. Wright is sure there is no pain, he will begin gently rocking the tooth back and forth to loosen the root from the socket.

Come see Dr. Wright for information on extractions and other options.
