Teeth Whitening

Do you know that your smile is usually the first thing other people notice about you?  If you are hiding your smile because of stained or yellowing teeth, call Dr. Mack Wright in Urbana, Ohio, for a teeth whitening consultation.

Professional whitening in a dental office will provide more obvious color changes in less time than at-home treatments.  The process is typically easier and less messy.  The professional gel used in Dr. Wright’s office has a higher concentration of whitening agents (hydrogen peroxide) that is not available for sale to the public.  The hydrogen peroxide is strong enough that it could cause damage to the tooth enamel is used incorrectly, necessitating professional supervision.

The hydrogen peroxide concentration in over-the-counter kits is not strong enough to cause any major change in tooth enamel, and the application processes tend to be long and tedious.

When receiving teeth whitening in the office, applications last between 30 and 60 minutes.  More than one visit may be necessary if a dramatic change is desired, but professional whitening can produce up to 10 times more whitening than that done at home.

Whitening toothpaste advertisements can also be misleading.  If they do contain hydrogen peroxide, there is no way that the paste can stay on the teeth long enough to make any real difference.
